Steeds meer organisaties willen beslissingen onderbouwen met feiten in plaats van aannames. Het verschil tussen kwantitatief en kwalitatief onderzoek 

Bij het opzetten van onderzoek kom je al snel twee termen tegen: kwantitatief en kwalitatief. Kwantitatief onderzoek draait om cijfers. Je zet een enquête uit onder een grote, representatieve groep en verwerkt de antwoorden tot percentages en grafieken. Dit type onderzoek is geschikt als je wilt weten hoeveel mensen ergens tevreden over zijn of hoe vaak een bepaald gedrag voorkomt. 

Kwalitatief onderzoek gaat juist over het waarom. Via interviews of focusgroepen ga je dieper in op motieven, ervaringen en meningen. Je werkt met een kleinere groep, maar de inzichten die je ophaalt zijn rijker en genuanceerder. Veel organisaties combineren beide vormen: eerst kwalitatief om een onderwerp te verkennen, daarna kwantitatief om te toetsen hoe breed iets speelt. 

Voordelen van een externe partij inschakelen 

Onderzoek zelf uitvoeren kost tijd en vraagt kennis van methodologie die niet elke organisatie in huis heeft. Een verkeerd opgestelde vragenlijst, een te kleine steekproef of sturende vragen kunnen de resultaten flink vertekenen, en dan heb je aan het einde van de rit cijfers waar je weinig mee kunt. Een onderzoeksbureau brengt die methodologische kennis mee en zorgt daarnaast voor een onafhankelijke blik, wat bij gevoelige onderwerpen zoals medewerkerstevredenheid vaak net dat beetje extra vertrouwen geeft.
